Broncos Top Chargers in Week 1

By September 13, 2017 No Comments

It’s funny to think that I had people tell me my game prediction was giving the Denver Broncos offense way too much credit. (I predicted Broncos 21-Chargers 14) With the final score ending Broncos 24-Chargers 21, the Broncos surpassed my prediction, which I am totally cool with.

That was close … but we’re ☝️ – 0!

Siemian Against the World

Trevor Siemian ended the night with 17-of-28 completed passes, 219 yards, a rushing touchdown, two passing touchdowns (Bennie Fowler receiving both of those), and a passer rating of 94.2. Although having an overall successful night, Siemian found himself sacked 4 times and narrowly escaped a 4th quarter comeback.

We saw a new and improved Siemian, who put the Broncos on the board early with a 70 yard drive, connecting with Bennie Fowler for the touchdown.

Following the Broncos long drive the Chargers took advantage of 40-yard defensive pass interference penalty called on Bradley Roby. They utilized Running back Melvin Gordon to get on the board, to start the second quarter.

Later in the second Broncos answered with their second scoring drive of the game, by a one-yard rushing touchdown by Siemian (Cue the gifs of Joey Bosas ankles being broken)

At the Half, Broncos headed to the locker room up 14-7.

Bradley Roby totally redeemed himself for an airhead 40 yd penalty, by intercepting a Rivers’ pass during the Chargers first possession in the second half. It only took the Broncos 6 plays to find the back of the end zone, with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Bennie Fowler. Making it 21-7.

Cutting it Close in the 4th Quarter

The fourth quarter is when it got a little dicey. An interception by Adrian Phillips, lead to a touchdown by Keenan Allen. On the following possession, Broncos’ Jamaal Charles was stripped, and the ball was recovered by Chargers corner back Casey Hayward. Rivers proceeded to score again, finding Travis Benjamin for a 38-yard touchdown. Following the extra point, the Chargers trailed the Broncos by 3.

With the Chargers final possession of the game and seconds left, Shelby Harris shined with a blocked field goal to seal the deal.
