Talking Touchdowns: Which Bird Will Fly Away with the Win?

By October 5, 2017 No Comments

Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers

The Cardinals won their second game of the season in overtime, and just like the Colts game, man was this one ugly. But, a win is a win and we’ll take it. Just like Kicker Phil Dawson said after the win in Indy, “May not have been the prettiest win, but it’s kind of like your high school prom date: Doesn’t matter if she’s pretty, as long as you’ve got one.” The Niners came into this game with only three sacks on the season and the Cardinals O line gave up six sacks to them. On the other side of the ball, our defense stepped up their game and didn’t allow a single touchdown in the game. Great job D. Now, let’s dive into next week’s matchup as our Cards travel to Philadelphia to take on the 3-1 Eagles in this edition of Talking Touchdowns.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are coming off of their own nail biter of a win against the 0-4 Chargers. With the Eagles having so many offensive weapons, our defense is going to have their hands full this game.

Offense

For ones to watch on the Cardinals’ offense, I am tagging John Brown to have a great game. If the offensive line can giver Palmer the extra time to let Brown fly down the field, he is going to have a great day. Brown has been pretty quiet so far this season due to being out with quad injury, but I expect that to change and I think BA hopes so too. “Smoke,” as he is nicknamed, adds an extra element to the offense.

For the Eagles, where do you start? This offense is humming but Arizona needs to stay on top of QB Carson Wentz. Wentz has multiple offensive weapons at his disposal like wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey, who already has 17 receptions for 215 yards this season, tight end Zack Ertz  who has 26 receptions for 326 yards, and running back LaGarrette Blount who has 249 rushing yards. Wentz is a mobile quarterback and is also able to make a plays with his legs if he doesn’t see anything he likes down the field.

Defense

On the defensive side of the ball, I expect our defensive line to stop the run attack and force Wentz to push the ball down the field through the air. Therefore, I am calling on cornerback Patrick Peterson to step up and have a big game. Just having Peterson on the field means Wentz will be looking to avoid throwing the ball in his direction.

For the Eagles, I’m highlighting their entire defensive line. Right now, DT Fletcher Cox is day-to-day with a calf injury, but if these guys are at full strength and our O line doesn’t show up once again, this is going to be a terrible day for Palmer. Here’s hoping something clicks for our offensive line in the next few days.

Game Prediction

Eeek, and here it is Cards fans: I am actually picking the Eagles to fly away with this one until our O-Line woes are figured out. 21-3.
