Women’s History Month: Fangirls’ Favorite Female Athletes

By March 9, 2018 No Comments

Sixers Fangirl, Lyndell

Favorite Female Athlete: Danica Patrick

Sport: NASCAR and Open-Wheel Indy Race Driver

She Inspires Me Because: She is the only female to have won an Indy car race (2008 Indy Japan 300). She ran her last race at the Daytona 500 this year and will race one more time at the Indianapolis 500. No other woman has ever raced in both the Open-Wheel and NASCAR circuits. Danica has shattered gender barriers by infiltrating, and having success in, a completely male-dominated sport. She’s inspired countless other young women to strive for a career in motorsports racing. She’s feisty, talented and has succeeded in a physically grueling sport that requires mental toughness and discipline.

Fun Fact: Danica drove a Pagani Zonda Roadster (an extremely rare and valuable car) around the streets of Monaco in the music video of Jay-Z‘s song “Show Me What You Got” in 2006.

I created Fangirl Sports Network as a place for female sports fans to follow their favorite teams with content and coverage that speaks directly to females. It started with one and then eight and now 32 NFL Fangirls and 15 NBA Fangirls.
